单词 | merycism |
释义 | merycism/ˈmɛrɪsɪz(ə)m/Medicine noun A medical condition in which food is regurgitated after a short period in the stomach, and is then either swallowed again (with or without re-chewing) or spat out. OriginMid 19th century; earliest use found in Robert Mayne (1808–1868). From post-classical Latin merycismus from Hellenistic Greek μηρυκισμός rumination (Septuagint) from the stem of μηρυκίζειν, variant of ancient Greek μηρυκάζειν to ruminate (perhaps representing a derivative in -ίζειν of an unattested noun) + -ισμός. |
