Meissner's plexus

A fine network of autonomic nerve fibres and ganglion cells located in the submucosal layer of the gastrointestinal tract; also called submucosal plexus.
Origin
Late 19th century; earliest use found in Quain's Elements of Anatomy. Described by Meissner 1857, in Zeitschr. f. Rationelle Medicin 8 364.
