Also (of vernation or aestivation): having the petals (especially the lobes of a tubular corolla) or leaves arranged so that the margin of each overlaps the next to form a twisted or spiral pattern; of or relating to this pattern of vernation or aestivation.
OriginMid 19th century; earliest use found in John Lindley (1799–1865), botanist and horticulturist. From scientific Latin supervolutus, specific use of classical Latin supervolūtus, past participle of supervolvere to roll on top from super- + volvere. |
