  • (1872–1915), Russian composer and pianist; full name Aleksandr Nikolaevich Scriabin. He wrote symphonies, tone poems, and numerous pieces for the piano, including sonatas and preludes. Much of his later music reflects his interest in mysticism and theosophy, especially his third symphony. Notable works: The Divine Poem (symphony, 1903) and Prometheus: The Poem of Fire (tone poem, 1909–10).
