(1917–99), Zimbabwean statesman; full name Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo. He became leader of the ZAPU party in 1961; in 1976 he formed the Patriotic Front with Robert Mugabe, leader of ZANU, and he held a cabinet post in the first post-independence government. He was vice president 1990–9.
