In sense 1 from German Periklin from Hellenistic Greek περικλινής sloping all round, on all sides from ancient Greek περι- + the stem of κλίνειν to bend, lean; in reference to the great inclination between the terminal and lateral faces. In sense 2 from French péricline from Hellenistic Greek περικλινής.
