Igolomia

Igolomia

a village near Krakow, Poland. Numerous kilns (primarily from the fourth century A.D.) for firing clay vessels were discovered in the vicinity of Igotomia in 1924. The remains of ironworking furnaces from the first centuries A.D. were found as well as a number of settlements and burials from various periods (from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages). Investigations showed that a major production center was located in the vicinity of Igolomia in the first centuries A.D. The articles produced here not only satisfied the demands of the local population but were also exported to more distant regions of the area along the Vistula.
