Iakovlev, Kondrat Nikolaevich

(also Kondratii N. Iakovlev). Born 1864 in Chernigov; died Aug. 26, 1928, in Leningrad. Soviet Russian actor. Honored Artist of the Republic (1921); Hero of Labor (1923).

In 1889, Iakovlev graduated from the drama division of the Music and Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, where he had studied under A. I. Iuzhin. During the 1889–90 season he performed in Kiev. Iakovlev was a member of the company of the Korsh Theater in Moscow from 1890 to 1895 and the St. Petersburg Theater of the Society of Literature and the Arts from 1898 to 1906. In 1906 he joined the troupe of the Aleksan-drinskii Theater (now the Leningrad Academic Drama Theater).

A character actor, Iakovlev performed in dramas, comedies, and skits with music. His outstanding role was that of Porfirii Petrovich in an adaptation of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. Iakovlev’s other roles included the Mayor in Gogol’s The Inspector-General, Raspliuev in Sukhovo-Kobylin’s Krechinskii’s Wedding, Marei in Trenev’s The Pugachev Rebellion, Rubashkin in Romashov’s The End of Krivoryl’sk, and the title role in Lenskii’s Lev Gurych Sinichkin.
