Fürst, Sándor

 

Born Nov. 27, 1903, in the village of Rum, Vas District; died July 29, 1932, in Budapest. Figure in the Hungarian working-class movement.

A left-wing Social Democrat, Fürst held a white-collar job in a factory in the 1920’s. In 1926 he joined the underground Communist Party of Hungary (CPH). In 1928 he became a member of the party’s Central Committee and leader of the Communist Youth League. He was persecuted for his revolutionary activities. In July 1932, Fürst and other leaders of the CPH were captured by the Horthy regime and executed.
