A blood product consisting of packed red cells, which has a prolonged shelf life given that most of the plasma is replaced with glycerol.
 
Indications
Rare blood types (e.g., Bombay phenotype), paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria, IgA deficiency with production of anti-IgA antibodies, GVHD, autologous blood storage.
