Ghilzai

Ghilzai

one of the largest groups of Afghan tribes. It includes over 1,500,000 people (1967, estimate). The Ghilzai inhabit the Ghazni Highlands and the western slope of the Sulaiman Range in southern Afghanistan. Some of the Ghilzai are still nomadic cattle-raisers, and they have retained vestiges of patriarchal social relationships. The Ghilzai took an active part in the struggle against the English aggressors during the Anglo-Afghan Wars of the 19th and 20th centuries.
