Fritzshe, Hellmut

(1927– ) physicist; born in Berlin, Germany. He came to the U.S.A. in 1952, and taught at Purdue (1955–57) before joining the University of Chicago (1957). An adviser for the Encyclopaedia Britannica, he made major contributions to studies of the electronic and optical properties of amorphous and crystalline semiconductors and metals.
