Fusariotoxicosis
Fusariotoxicosis
a poisoning of livestock caused by eating feed contaminated by toxic fungi of the genus Fusarium. Horses, cattle, sheep, goats, swine, and poultry are susceptible to the disease. Fusariotoxicosis occurs in many countries, including the USSR. Infected animals suffer from depression, restlessness, gastrointestinal disorders, convulsions, and paralysis. An acute course of the disease is frequently fatal. Treatment includes irrigation of the stomach with adsorbing agents, prescription of a special diet, and use of emetics, laxatives, or mucilaginous decoctions. Monitoring the quality of feed helps to prevent the disease.
