Georgios Pahymeres

 

Born 1242; died about 1310, in Constantinople. Byzantine writer.

Georgios Pahymeres occupied a number of important church and state (judicial) posts. He belonged to a group of fanatical Byzantine monks who were opposed to the conclusion of the union between the Orthodox and Catholic churches. Georgios Pahymeres is the author of the History, which covers Byzantium during the period 1255-1308. This work was based to a considerable degree on personal impressions, and it includes many valuable details. Also preserved are rhetorical and philosophical works of his, as well as letters.
