Georgii Neroda

Neroda, Georgii Vasil’evich

Born Jan. 17 (29), 1895, in Chernigov. Soviet sculptor. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1967); corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1967).

From 1913 to 1917, Neroda studied under S. M. Volnukhin at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. In 1926 he joined the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia. His works include portraits of A. V. Lunacharskii (bronze, 1928, Apartment-Museum of A. V. Lunacharskii, Moscow), la. M. Sverdlov (plaster of paris, 1932, Tret’iakov Gallery), and V. I. Lenin (forged copper, 1970, property of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR). Neroda also sculptured the monument to G. K. Ordzhonikidze in Kislovodsk (bronze, 1939, unveiled 1951) and the monument to V. I. Lenin in Perm’ (bronze, unveiled 1954). Neroda was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. The artist’s son Iurii Georgievich (born 1920) works with him and independently.
