g force[′jē ‚fȯrs] (physics) A force such that a body subjected to it would have the acceleration of gravity at sea level; used as a unit of measurement for bodies undergoing the stress of acceleration. G force
G forceinertial force produced by accelerations or gravity, expressed in gravitational units; one G is equal to the pull of gravity at the earth's surface at sea level and 45° north latitude (32.1725 ft/sec2; 980.621 cm/sec2). See also: g. G forceThe gravitational constant. In aerospace medicine, the term indicates the forces acting on the human body during acceleration in certain flight maneuvers. Thus a force of 2 positive G means that the aviator is being subjected to a force twice that of gravity with a doubling of weight in that condition, i.e., the force against the seat is 2 G.
