gold tranche n (Banking & Finance) former name for reserve tranche Gold Tranche
Gold TrancheBefore 1978, 25% of an IMF member state's membership fees. Any IMF member had access to its reserve tranche without preconditions, and was not obligated to repay what it withdrew. It derived its name from the fact that it was paid in gold. Reserve tranches replaced gold tranches. Special Drawing Rights were formerly based on gold. |
