Giller, Norman

(1918–2008)A leading designer of the Miami Modern style. Commonly known as MiMo, Miami’s version of postwar modernism featured dramatic sweeping roof lines, biomorphic forms, bold colors, and liberal use of glass. In Florida, Giller’s projects included the Carillon Hotel in Miami Beach, the Thunderbird Motel in Sunny Isles, the Singapore Hotel inBal Harbor, and the original Diplomat Hotel and Country Club in Hollywood. Giller was instrumental in the creation of Miami Beach’s Design Review Board, and he later served as its chairman.
