A trading platform that allows investors to trade futures, commodities, and other derivatives without regard for time zone. Trading takes place electronically. It was established by Reuters in 1992. It has become less popular as exchanges, notably the CBOT, have adopted similar platforms. See also: National Market System.

Globex

an international futures trading system which enables futures contracts to be traded outside the trading hours of their national FORWARD MARKETS. Globex is run by REUTERS and its members include the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Matif (of France) and DTB (of Germany). However, it has failed to attract the support of the London based LIFFE, the world's third largest futures market, while the world's largest futures exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, withdrew from Globex in 1994.
