[′frē·kwən·sē ‚thē·ə·rē] (neuroscience) A theory of human hearing according to which every specific frequency of sound energy is represented by nerve impulses of the same frequency, and pitch differentiation and analysis are carried out by the brain centers. Also known as telephone theory.
