the analysis of the origin of various genomes in polyploid forms by means of crossings between assumed parental forms, with subsequent polyploidization. It is a cytogenetic method and was suggested by the Japanese cytogeneticist H. Kihara in 1924. In the selection of pairs for crossing one is guided by the morphological characteristics common to both partners and to the allopolyploid form being studied. After crossing and polyploidization a careful chromosome analysis and an analysis of the process of meiosis are conducted. The conjugation of chromosomes serves as an indicator of genomic relationship. The absence of conjugation testifies to the fact that the chromosomes belong to different genomes.
