Gamgiusar

(pseudonym of Aliguli Alekper ogly Hadzhafov). Born 1880, in Nakhichevan’; died Mar. 14, 1919, in Tbilisi. Azerbaijani poet and journalist.

Gamgiusar’s first works were published in 1906. A prominent representative of the revolutionary and satirical orientation in Azerbaijani literature, he sharply criticized the bourgeois and landowning system and the colonial policy of tsarism, fought against ignorance and religious fanaticism, and welcomed the national liberation movement of the peoples of the Near East. In the poem England, which was written in 1919, Gamgiusar exposed the policy of the British colonialists. His sociopolitical articles were printed in the magazine Molla Nasreddin and in newspapers, including Sharki Rus, 1rs had, and Taraggi.
