Arkticheskii Institut Islands

a group of four islands and several sandbars located in the Kara Sea, 140 km west of the Taimyr Peninsula. They were formed by Quaternary marine and glacial deposits. They have altitudes up to 50 m. Arctic tundras are predominant. The islands were discovered in 1932–33 by a Soviet expedition sailing on the icebreaker Sibiriakov and were named in honor of the Arctic Scientific Research Institute (now the Arctic and Antarctic Scientific Research Institute).
