Asmus, Valentin Ferdinandovich
Born Dec. 18 (30), 1894, in Kiev. Soviet philosopher; doctor of philosophical sciences (1940).
Asmus graduated from the historical and philological department of the University of Kiev in 1919, after which he was engaged in scholarly research and pedagogical work. Asmus became a professor at Moscow University in 1939 and a senior research worker at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1968. His basic works deal with problems in the history of philosophy (particularly the history of German idealism and Russian philosophy), the theory and history of logic, aesthetics, and literary criticism. Asmus was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1943 for his participation in writing the work The History of Philosophy.
