Location:On the slopes of the Cascade Mountains in southwest Washington. Accessible by US 12 and I-5, WA 14 and SR 504. Nearby cities/towns include Vancouver, Stevenson, Longview, Centralia, and White Salmon.
Facilities:Visitor centers and information stations, 40+ campgrounds, equestrian camps, dispersed camping, 2 cabins, day-use sites, trails (1,200 miles), observatory, scenic drives.
Activities:Camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, berry picking, mountain climbing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, 110,000 acres; Mount Adams, Washington's second highest peak and a designated wilderness area; Indian Heaven Wilderness, a wilderness area on a high plateau with more than 150 lakes; Big Lava Bed, a 14,000-acre lava flow field; Bear Meadow, on the edge of the Mount St. Helens blast zone; lava tubes and caves, including Ape Cave, the longest known lava tube in the continental US at 12,810 feet.
