Gallier, James, Sr.

(1798–1866) builder/architect; born in Ravensdale, County Louth, Ireland. He arrived in New Orleans in 1834 and, collaborating with Charles and James Dakin among others, dominated that city's architecture with his Greek Revival buildings until retiring in 1850.

Leading Greek Revival architect; he designed the Government Street Presbyterian Church, Mobile, AL, in 1835; Saint Charles Hotel, New Orleans, in 1836; and the City Hall in New Orleans in 1850.
