Berger, Peter L. (Ludwig)

(1929– ) sociologist; born in Vienna, Austria. He emigrated to the U.S.A. at age 17 and earned a Ph.D. at the New School for Social Research. He held academic appointments at various institutions including Boston University (1981). He wrote on modernization, in relation both to Christian beliefs and institutions and to Third World development, in such books as The Social Construction of Reality (coauthored, 1966) and The Capitalist Revolution (1986).
