Giddings, J. Louis, Jr. Giddings, J. (James) Louis, Jr.(1909–64) anthropologist; born in Caldwell, Texas. He earned a Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania and taught at Brown University (1956–64), where he was director of the Haffenreffer Museum of the American Indian. He pioneered dendrochronology; his many Alaskan excavations led to such works as Ancient Men of the Arctic (1967). |
