Gayle, Margot

(1908–2008)Centenarian and American historic preservationist and author Margot Gayle and her supporters established the SoHo Cast Iron Historic District in New York City, which encompasses 26 square blocks of a prior industrial district called Hell’s Hundred Acres. She also helped SoHo maintain its unique low-rise character and brought back features like cobblestone streets. Gayle is also credited with starting the Victorian Society in America and the Friends of Cast Iron Architecture.
