Gayle, Margot Gayle, Margot (1908–2008)Centenarian and American historic preservationist and author Margot Gayle and her supporters established the SoHo Cast Iron Historic District in New York City, which encompasses 26 square blocks of a prior industrial district called Hell’s Hundred Acres. She also helped SoHo maintain its unique low-rise character and brought back features like cobblestone streets. Gayle is also credited with starting the Victorian Society in America and the Friends of Cast Iron Architecture. |
