a city (since 1932) and administrative center of Gali Raion, in the Abkhazian ASSR. Located in the Kolkhida lowlands, on the Eristskali River (a tributary of the Okumi), on the Sukhumi-Samtredia highway. Railroad station 77 km southeast of Sukhumi. Population, 13,500 (1970). There are tea-processing factories in Gali.
