Gale, Robert (Peter)

(1945– ) physician; born in New York City. At the University of California: Los Angeles beginning in 1972, he established a major bone marrow transplant center. In 1986 he attained international renown when he traveled to Chernobyl (Ukraine), then in the Soviet Union, to treat victims of a nuclear power plant accident. A prolific writer, he coauthored Final Warning: The Legacy of Chernobyl (1988).
