geographic square search

[¦jē·ə¦graf·ik ′skwer ‚sərch] (navigation) An orderly arrangement of course lines (a search) consisting of a series of lines of increasing length, each change of course being 90° in the same direction (right or left), so that the pattern of the search is an expanding square relative to a geographic point. Also known as fixed square search.
