a drug that is one of the anticholinesterase agents; an alkaloid contained in some types of snowdrop (Galanthus) and snowflake (Leucoium). A solution of galanthamine is injected hypodermically to cure myasthenia, myopathy, and infantile cerebral paralysis. It is also used during the restoration period of poliomyelitis. It is an antidote for curare.
