Giuliani, Rudolph W.

(1944– ) lawyer; born in New York City. He was with the attorney general's office, U.S. Department of Justice (1975–77, 1981–83), then became the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (Manhattan) (1983–89). After failing in his first bid as the Republican candidate for mayor of New York (1989), he went into private practice, then was elected mayor in 1993.
