[gə′lak·tik ′lad·ə‚tüd] (astronomy) Angular distance north or south of the galactic equator; the arc of a great circle through the galactic poles, between the galactic equator and a point on the celestial sphere, measured northward or southward from the galactic equator through 90° and labeled N or S to indicate the direction of measurement.
