Gairati

(pseudonym of Abdurakhim Abdullaev). Born Feb. 2 (15), 1905, in Tashkent. Soviet Uzbek writer. One of the pioneers of Soviet Uzbek poetry.

Gairati published his first work in 1921. He glorified socialist construction and the young Soviet state in his early stories and poems, including the collections Voice of Freedom (1927), Tempo (1932), and Golden Youth (1940). His narrative poems Letter to My Mother (1933) and Dzhinasta (1935) were devoted to the difficult past of the Uigur people. He is also the author of the collections Songs of Immortality (1961), Confusion (1961), You Are My Youth (1962), Poems (1965), and Our Khamza (1967). Gairati has also written works for children, including the play White Aster (1952), the novella Unforgettable Days (1956), and Stories (1958).
