(from Latin, “let us rejoice”), the name of a Latin medieval student song. It was also popular in later centuries among students of several countries, including pre-revolutionary Russia. It began with the words Gaudeamus igitur, juvenes dum sumus (“Let us rejoice while we are young”); it extolled life, youth, and knowledge.
