(Goliathus), a genus of large beetles of the family Scarabaeidae. There are five species living in the forests of tropical Africa. Goliath beetles are strong fliers. The largest is the gigantic (G. goliathus), reaching 10 cm in length and 6 cm in breadth; there are hornlike projections on the male’s head, and the color is velvety black with white markings. The royal goliath (G. regius) is somewhat smaller.
