Gafsa a city in southwestern Tunisia, administrative center of Gafsa Province. Population, 31,900 (1966). Gafsa is a highway junction and the center of a phosphorite-extracting region (deposits at Redeyef, Metlaoui, Moularès, and Madilah), and it is connected by railroad with the port of Sfax.
