A rapidly progressive malignancy of sudden onset, which is characterised by an uncontrolled clonal proliferation of immature white cells, which replace bone marrow and spill into the peripheral blood.Clinical findings, acute lymphocytic leukaemia Generalised malaise and fatigue, anaemia, fever, weight loss, anorexia, bruising, bone and joint pain, dyspnoea, increased infections.
Clinical findings, acute myeloid leukaemia Generalised malaise and fatigue, anaemia, fever, weight loss, anorexia, bruising, petechiae, bone and joint pain, dyspnoea, increased infections.
Lab Pancytopaenia with circulating blasts, hyperuricaemia.
Prognosis Untreated acute leukaemia may be fatal in weeks to months.
