(gäbrô`vô), town (1993 pop. 75,999), N central Bulgaria, in the foothills of the Balkan Mts. It is Bulgaria's chief textile center, producing clothes, leather goods, and textile machinery. The food and furniture indus-tries are also represented, as well as tourism (hiking trips to the Stara Planina, Shipka Pass, and so on). Fruit orchards and forests are located in the city’s environs. National comedy festivals are held annually in Gabrovo.
