Agrakhan Peninsula
a sandy peninsula on the western shore of the Caspian Sea opposite the Terek delta in the Dagestan ASSR. Reaching an elevation of 20 m, it is about 50 km long, no more than 8 km wide, and covers an area of 212 sq km. On the east, it is bounded by a gulf of the same name. The peninsula’s semidesert landscape has sandy dunes and coastal marshes; tamarisk bushes grow on the dunes.
