Frankfurter, Alfred (Moritz)

(1906–65) art critic; born in Chicago. He studied at Princeton and with Bernard Berenson in Italy. He returned to New York City (1927) and worked as an editor and a free-lance art critic, then became editor of Art News (1936–65). In his capacity as an editor, he became an influential force in the art world of the time.
