town (1991 pop. 1,411) on the island of Nevis, St. Kitts and Nevis, West Indies. Charlestown is the chief town and port of the island. Sugar processing is the major industry; the port serves primarily to ship goods to St. Kitts. Alexander Hamilton was born in Charlestown.
