Dzhava

 

an urban-type settlement, center of Dzhava Raion, Iuzhnaia Osetiia Autonomous Oblast, Georgian SSR. Situated in the valley of the Bol’shaia Liakhvi River (a tributary of the Kura River) at an elevation of 1,040 m, it lies 22 km south of the city of Tskhinvali, with which it is linked by a motor road. Dzhava is a balneological and climatic health resort. Summers are warm, with average July temperatures of 18°C, and winters are moderately cold, with average January temperatures of -13°C. Annual precipitation totals 750 mm. Therapeutic remedies include mineral water of the following composition:

The water is used for drinking, baths, irrigation, inhalation, and bottling. (There is a bottling plant.) Patients with diseases of the digestive organs and urinary tracts and metabolic disorders are treated. Dzhava has a sanatorium, facilities for water and mud-bath treatments, and pump rooms where the water is dispensed for drinking.
