EPHA8

EPHA8

A gene on chromosome 1p36.12 that encodes a member of the ephrin-A receptor subfamily of receptor tyrosine kinases, which “promiscuously” bind membrane-bound ephrin-A family ligands residing on adjacent cells, leading to contact-dependent bidirectional signalling into neighbouring cells. EFNA8 is activated by GPI-anchored ephrin-As (EFNA2, EFNA3 and EFNA5) through phosphorylation; with EFNA5, it also plays a role in axon guidance and may regulate integrin-mediated cell adhesion and migration on a fibronectin substrate, as well as neurite outgrowth. EPHA8 interacts with ANKS1A, ANKS1B, FYN, PIK3CG and TIAM1.
