copper sulfate poisoning

The systemic response to ingestion of toxic amounts of the pesticide copper sulfate. Large ingestions may cause liver failure, acute renal failure, and shock.

Treatment

Penicillamine or dimercaprol should be given. The caregiver should monitor vital signs, treat shock, administer oxygen if needed, control convulsions, and maintain electrolyte balance.
