cag PAI

cag PAI

A 40-kb genomic fragment present in some Helicobacter pylori, which contains 29 genes that encode parts of a secretory apparatus that translocates a 120-kD CagA protein into the host cell (see Helicobacter pylori). Once inside, the PAI undergoes phosphorylation and binds to SHP-2 tyrosine phosphatase, leading to growth factor-like cellular response and cytokine production by the host cell.
