Collard, Max Ernest

(1909–2008)A modernist, responsible for many prominent public buildings in Australia. In 1963 the Australian government relocated all the country’s public servants to Canberra from Melbourne, and the need for housing and public buildings there resulted in a multiyear building boom. In 1971 he completed Russell Building 14, part of a defense complex for the navy. Featuring a dramatic lobby and facade that became a local landmark.
