CACNA2D2

CACNA2D2

A gene on chromosome 3p21.3 that encodes the alpha-2D2 subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel, which regulates calcium current density and activation/inactivation kinetics of the calcium channel, and which plays an important role in excitation-contraction coupling. CACNA2D2 acts as a regulatory subunit for P/Q-type (CACNA1A), N-type (CACNA1B), L-type (CACNA1C or CACNA1D) and possibly T-type (CACNA1G) calcium channels. Overexpression of CACNA2D2 induces apoptosis.
